Honey bees are at the heart of our enterprise and are close to our hearts! All our pollinators face several threats ranging from climate change, loss or destruction of their habitat to disease, mites and exposure to pesticides. Whilst we can’t do much to stop these threats, we can certainly try to help them survive. We have a small section of land right in the heart of Bristol where we keep our honey bees and are cultivating a small pesticide-free wildflower meadow. They are safe and secure here and are helping to boost local honey bee populations. To minimise disease between colonies, we practice good hygiene techniques which keep our bees as healthy as possible. We also adopt an integrated pest management system to keep varroa mites (a vector for some viruses) under control and to ensure that the mites do not become resistant to any one type of treatment.
When available, we sell nucleus and packaged bee colonies to new or seasoned beekeepers and if the seasons have been fruitful, we sell local honey – if you suffer with hayfever, local honey is said to help reduce the symptoms.
As beekeepers, we are also available to collect most honey bee swarms if they are causing you a nuisance or a concern.
